Wandered into Briggs Oyster for dinner, and was very pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. Start with the menus - the prices were actually reasonable, which is rare to see these days. The menu wasn't overwhelming but had a mix of classic seafood dishes, salads, oysters, and sushi/sashimi options. The food was prepared at the center bar, so I was able to watch the chef prepare the sushi roll I had ordered. The restaurant didn't have a lot of seating space, but also didn't feel too crowded or too loud. I will absolutely be back for another meal soon, there were several menu items I would like to try.
If you are in the mood for fish & seafood, puhleese go no further than Briggs in the Suncoast. Its ambiance, despite the lack of sea water, is of a harbor back east, with plenty of counter space, booths & tables, & I like that the TVs for game watching are not in your face. We are frequent diners in this restaurant capitol of America & find that no oyster bar features a menu close to this: of everything fresh tasting, like sushi, 2 chowders, pan roast, Cioppino, seafood cobb, filet of sole, salmon, shrimp scampi, lobster roll, the best fish tacos & fish fries, & voila! The best coleslaw in town (& this Wisconsin girl knows), a basket of various rolls, & what could be the secret to their great steak fries? Most of the happy staff has been with them for many years; and we get the feeling it's the place where everyone still knows your name. And, I might add, the prices are decent for anyone's budget. We arrived at 5:00 on Sun. for my partner's 75th birthday (where we chose to celebrate mine last year) & people were already arriving. My birthday boy chose the fish & chips w/steak fries & coleslaw, & I had the ample Shrimp & Crab Louis which none other can beat. Briggs has a good liquor selection (incl. Sake) & I chose Kendall-Jackson's chardonnay. To top off this divine culinary experience, Briggs brought out a terrific chocolate birthday cake. And now, what else could we want?
***1st experience*** NO OYSTER HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS... Google search/yelp is not updated and shows this place for oyster happy hour. Seated immediately for 4 on weekday once they opened. FOOD: Calamari (meat is thin), Lobster Mac & Cheese (RECOMMEND FOR ANY CHEESE LOVERS), 1/2 dozen reg. oysters and 1/2 doz specialty oysters (from Washington), Seafood Chowder, Shrimp & Crab Pasta (I liked this!), Tiger Sushi Roll and Brigg's Cioppino. SERVICE from everyone was BEYOND expected. Personable company with their customers were obvious. Workers take the time to serve you correct which is ever so rare. If I lived closer I would still come back for their regular half shell oysters
Very tasty fresh oysters. Good sushi rolls. Great service. Excellent seafood ceviche. Nice comfortable atmosphere. A nice little bread basket was served before our meal. Fun place!
New Prices Updates: yikes Food: great delicious selections from seafood cioppino, pan roast to selections of sushi rolls. If you crave raw oysters, you can get them here. Very fresh! Fishermen Pier style selections of seafood dishes from crab, lobster, shrimp, clam chowder.... Service: attentive staff goes above beyond to provide great customer service Ambience: the place has a counter bar that is the focal point with some side booth. It can get busy with long lines.
Large portions at great prices! Their lobster rolls are the closest I've found to the east coast. The order comes with two hefty lobster nice toasty rolls with wedge potatoes to accompany them. The Cioppinno is the best in town! Lobster, large shrimps, and a massive portion with just enough pasta or white rice. This is a spot with variety that closes Sunday and Monday. Their chicken Alfredo is what brings many people back. Raw oysters, Sushi, Fish tacos and clam chowder all in one place! Service keeps locals coming back on a weekly and daily basis.
Remembered this place being open now so decided to check it out for dinner and we liked it so much we went back 5 days later. Thought it was strange that for a place with "oysters" in its name that they only had one special the first time, but had two the other night, Kumamoto being one of them. Of course I had to get a half dozen of the Kumamotos. They were smaller than what I'm used to (they're pretty small to begin with) but they were tasty. I think it was just under $19 for 6 of them, but still worth it. Husband got the fish and chips both times and was very happy with the dish. I got the linguine with clams the first time, and the seafood Cobb salad the second time. Do get the linguine with clams - soooo much clam! I had clams left over after I finished the noodles. And yes, I ate every last bit of the clams. Skip the Cobb... iceberg lettuce, with shrimp and crabmeat - guessing blue crab because it didn't have any crab flavor. I was actually thinking of asking for salt because it was very bland, even with the blue cheese dressing. Realized our waitress forgot to give us bread the first time. She remembered this time and they were pretty tasty. Oh, their margarita is goooood. No gross margarita mix, just lime and triple sec. And at only $8, it's a gosh darn good deal! Food and service was 4.5 both times but bumping it up to 5 due to its location (5min. from home) and the fact that we were able to walk in and get seated immediately.
